Aries' "Conversations" Is Not Afraid to Beg For Your Attention

Nostalgia and ingenuity. The two seemingly conflicting ideals define Aries' distinctive approach to music. First fully rearing its head on his acclaimed 2019 debut album Welcome Home, it is an ethos that the genre-bending purveyor refines with each new release. While it is a continued musical evolution that saw his legion of diehard fans wait over 500 days for a taste of new music - arriving in the form of "Fool's Gold" - thankfully the wait this time around was practically nonexistent.

"Conversations" builds on the initial hype of Aries' preceding single to deliver a vision that feels notably laser-focused. Opening on a lackadaisical guitar line that has come to characterize his intoxicating fusion of slacker rock, West Coast alternative, and emo rap, Aries wastes no time in unveiling the driving force behind his latest tour de force.

Quickly switching gears into a guitar-driven alternative stunner, Aries' swift lyrical imagery takes center stage. "And what I can't explain is settled / Your vendetta," half-sings, half-states Aries before once again shifting into a breezy, infectious radio contender. Speaking further on the underlying message of "Conversations," Aries shared,

"'CONVERSATIONS' is about begging for attention. Whether that be from someone in particular or more generally. It's summed up by the lyrics in the hook 'Conversations I could never get enough... Silence aching my bones.'"

"Conversations," like much of the artist's growing discography, is inherently difficult to perfectly place or define. The traces of '90s alternative, emo rap, hip-hop and pop radio-friendly fusion can certainly be traced, but no one umbrella term completely captures Aries' nostalgically novel sound, and perhaps he likes it better that way.
