Lewis Capaldi Inspires Change in Bittersweet "Someone You Loved" Music Video

With over 80,000 views in the first four hours of its release, Lewis Capaldi's emotionally charged music video for "Someone You Loved" is taking the world by storm. Featuring his distant cousin, actor Peter Capaldi, the Scottish singer-songwriter tells the story of a man coping with the passing of the love of his life. He receives consolation in the fact that she lives on in a young mother, who received a heart transplant from his love. This melancholic video was directed by Phil Beastall, known for his equally poignant short film,  Love is a Gift.

The "Someone You Loved" video begins and ends with the simple sound of a heartbeat. With painful flashbacks of his time in the hospital, the male lead's agony is mixed with bittersweet joy, knowing his love's final action was saving someone's life. He visits the family of the mother who received the heart and gets to feel it in action. The same heart is still alive, still beating, just as it was in the hospital with him. Despite the immense, empty feeling brought on by her passing, he knows his love's heart lives on in a deserving recipient who will continue to love her family with the same heart that loved him.

Capaldi hopes to bring awareness to the necessity of organ donors in this video through his partnership with British organ donation charity Live Life Give Life. He became aware of this organization from his mother, a nurse, and immediately partnered with them to create this powerful masterpiece. Capaldi also worked with Jim Lynskey, a fan who is on the heart donor list, to draw inspiration for the "Someone You Loved" video. Lynskey's situation solidified Capaldi's decision to base this video on organ donation and was a driving force behind bringing this vision to reality.

"Someone You Loved" has been one of Capaldi's most successful singles, currently sitting in the top ten of the British singles chart with more than 60 million streams across various services. "Someone You Loved" is a profound treasure off of Capaldi's latest EP, Breach. Every song from the EP is just as heartfelt and emotionally agonizing as this “Someone You Loved."

Capaldi is currently touring with alternative rock band Bastille across Europe.   He has also played shows alongside international stars Niall Horan, Sam Smith, and Rag N' Bone Man, in addition to selling out his own headline tours in Europe and America.
