Alae came together as a two piece in 2016, with friends Alex Farrell-Davey and Allister Meffan delivering a folk-inspired sound throughout their home country of New Zealand, with solo gigs and several nationwide support slots. The duo then added drummer Jayden Lee and bassist Marika Hodgson, performing as a full band with a fuller pop sound. In 2018 the band released their debut album, Henry St and in 2019 signed a record deal with LA-based label Anti-Gravity Records. 2020 has seen the release of the Lucy's Mix Tape EP, featuring seven new singles including radio hits 'Summer Thing', 'Lucy' and 'Hit Me Where It Hurts'.
