Debt Club are a Pōneke-based indie/folk rock six-piece made up of River Hann-Ellen (Vocals/Guitar), Flinn Bellam (Guitar), Elina Chester (Keys), Alex Vujanic (Saxophone), Darcy Monteath (Bass) and Maxime Zephyr (Drums). Blending thoughtful songwriting with rich, layered arrangements, the band has quickly built a reputation for crafting expansive songs that balance intimacy with catharsis. Drawing comparisons to MJ Lenderman and Pinegrove, Debt Club combines jangling indie rock, folk, alt-country and emo into a sound that feels both familiar and distinctly their own. With soaring saxophone melodies, dynamic live performances, and an emphasis on lyricism, the band has steadily become a notable presence in Aotearoa’s underground music scene.

Originally formed in 2023 as a four-piece built around guitars, bass, drums, and vocals, Debt Club expanded into a six-piece with the addition of keys and saxophone, opening the door to the wider, more textured sound they’ve become known for. Following the release of their first two singles in 2024, the band continued building momentum with the release of “Little Lines” and “Windows” in 2025, both of which feature on their debut EP, “Taste For Stout,” released on the 5th of September.

Over the past two years, Debt Club have shared stages with acclaimed acts including Marlin's Dreaming, Phoebe Rings and Australia’s Floodlights, while also appearing at festivals including Rhythm & Vines, Twisted Frequency, CubaDupa and Newtown Festival. The band also recently released their first official music video alongside “I Do Mine,” the lead single from their forthcoming debut album, “Foothold,” set for release in mid 2026, with the album release to be followed by a nationwide Aotearoa tour.
