Audrey Nuna Turns “superHuman” In New Single

Audrey Nuna is back with a bang! Following the extreme success of KPop Demon Hunters, in which she provides the singing voice of Mira, Nuna returns to her solo project with her new single “superHuman,” and it does not disappoint. The combination of hard-hitting beats, infectious melodies, and unique lyrical flows are some of the strongest they’ve ever been throughout Nuna’s career.
The track opens with a wavering, pulsing melody that sets a suspenseful tone for the rest of the song. As a sequence of plucked notes comes in over the top of the initial instrumental, Nuna enters confidently with some ad libs, preparing the audience for the beat drop. Her hypnotizing flow and layered vocals combine with a heavy kick drum sound to signal the start of the verse, and the beat remains relatively minimalistic throughout the beginning of the song.
One unique part of Nuna’s songwriting style is that although many of her songs follow a typical rap structure, she includes many harmonic and melodic elements to differentiate herself from other artists within the genre. The chorus of “superHuman” is a testament to that, as the beat remains the same as the verse while Nuna’s rapping transitions into singing. Within this chorus, she stacks harmonies over the main melody to create a thicker and fuller sound. Lyrically, Nuna discusses her own strength and independence over an assertive beat that matches her lyrical themes. She oozes confidence while stating, “hey, world, hit me with whatever you got” and “I’m on my superhuman shit.”
After the first chorus, a gritty, electronic synth pops through, overtaking any other melodic elements of the song. As Nuna raps, her voice becomes distorted by the synth, taking on a purposefully autotuned tone as she begins to blend with the instrumental for a moment. The kick drums increase in frequency and the song becomes more frantic as we lose Nuna to her bionic counterpart before returning to the original beat of the song.
The bridge of “superHuman” provides a stark contrast to the hard-hitting beat in the rest of the song. Nuna’s vocals are melodic and angelic, and the drums fall away to create a floating feeling through the piano and string instrumental. But after a moment of silence, the beat returns with renewed confidence, while Nuna reminds listeners that she is as “superHuman” as ever.
