Harriette's "bc i love you" Is a Post-Break Up Indie Pop Tour De Force

Texas-born, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Harriette in her latest single, "bc i love you." The track, off her upcoming debut EP, I Heart the Internet, out April 27, uses airy synths and chugging electric guitar as the backdrop of a postmortem examination of a failed relationship.

"bc i love you" opens with a spacey collection of lilting guitar plucks and iridescent synths before being joined by Harriette's sunny vocals and uptempo percussion. The artist laments that her lover isn't acting like they used to and notices that she's carrying the weight and putting the work into what she realizes is a one-sided relationship. In the song's outro, amid summery, intensifying guitar riffs, crushing bass lines, and climatic percussion, Harriette asks what happened to their relationship, saying they were just having fun before asking, "Was it because I love you?"

"I wrote this song a day after I got broken up with - I was trying to figure out what went wrong & was blaming myself," Harriette explains. "It's crazy the hoops we jump through to try to make something work because we don't want to be alone. I guess this song is the product of me processing that phenomenon. It's why I felt so crazy and alone in this relationship. The song came together so quickly, and it was almost effortless to put together in the studio. It is also my favorite song to sing on the EP :)."

The accompanying music video, directed by Jacqueline Justice and Muriel Margaret, is a colorful and carefree effort full of vibrant visuals and whimsy. The video follows Harriette as she goes about her day, dancing in the rain, eating a candlelit dinner alone, and singing to the camera in various locations. In its final frame, the music montage reveals that Harriette has been singing her heart out to a mannequin head on a shelf.

"bc i love you" follows the release of her previous singles "Goodbye Texas" and "fing Married," released last fall. In celebration of I Heart The Internet,'s release, Harriette will be playing a record release party at Brooklyn's at Baby's All Right on April 26. She has also announced that she will be supporting indie band joan on their upcoming North American tour. The tour will begin on May 13 in Atlanta, GA and conclude in Little Rock, AR on June 16. In addition, she will stop in Washington, DC, Chicago, Toronto, Seattle, and more along the way.
