INJI Brings Dubstep to the Situationship Era with Explosive “U WON’T”

Dubstep is back and we have rising dance-pop star INJI to thank for it. Her new single “U WON’T” is playful, epic, and reminiscent of the iconic genre’s early days. After releasing her debut EP WE GOOD last year, including a feature from the legendary Nile Rodgers, INJI continues to captivate listeners around the world with her cheeky lyrics, infectious party girl energy, and pure approach to making music fun. At only 24 years old, INJI is making her mark in the dance genre and “U WON’T” ushers in a new era of provocative pop designed for dancing the pain away. 

The self-aware, chaotic confidence that INJI naturally possesses is what makes her music so great. It can’t be conjured or replicated, it works because it reflects her true energy. “U WON’T” might be her best example of this superpower. The track starts with an immediate build, a quality not heard often in a post-dubstep world. INJI’s flow is delectable as she lists all of the things a casual relationship can’t provide, despite it being her true desire. 

The beat drop is explosive and scratches the brain just right, another underrated and underused quality of modern dance-pop. What makes “U WON’T” so successful is INJI’s unserious delivery, pronouncing certain lines with a flair of personality and silliness that ties the whole track together. It’s a ballsy concept for a song, one that blatantly points out the shortcomings of her partner while simultaneously admitting that she’s the one settling for it. 

On her inspiration for the track, INJI shares “At its core, U WON’T! is about the most universal romantic experience for any 20-something: situationships...It’s the confrontation we all wish we would have, screamed over a dubstep beat, capturing both the rage and the chaotic desperation of wanting more but settling for less. Call that shit out.”

INJI has a unique way with words, sounds, and energy. “U WON’T” is an amazing addition to INJI’s growing discography, one where you can press shuffle on the aux and keep the fun going all night long. This new era is already enticing and we can’t wait to catch INJI at one of the many festivals she’s playing later this year.
