10 Questions With Lonnie on His Debut Single “One Night Stand” [Q&A]

Fresh, focused, and savvy enough to layer his talents over hints of a familiar pop gem, Lonnie popped off at the end of last year with the mellifluous jam, "One Night Stand." With a shimmering vocal laid over a tight staccato rimshot beat, the song drips with coy intentions, piquing our interest after a single listen. As always, we wanted to know more and reached out to Lonnie about his debut success, New Year's resolutions, and more.

Ones To Watch: Who is Lonnie?

Lonnie: I'm a 20-year-old guy from SoCal who makes music inside of his room whenever he needs to cope.

What is “One Night Stand” all about?

"One Night Stand" is about wanting something with a girl when she doesn't have the same intentions. Her intentions are just for one night, but you want her for life. It's about wanting something more serious or a relationship and the other person not feeling the same way.

Gorgeous video, with lots of effects, who created the treatment?

Nayip Ramos and I created the treatment. I came up with the idea and he wrote it all out and added some of his ideas and his own flavor to it. It was cool.

Who directed the video? How was the production experience

Nayip and Vincent Herbert directed it. The production was amazing. I've never done a music video as serious as that one. When I was younger my friend and I just had a little camera and we would go to different places and record and edit it for fun, so the “One Night Stand” video was a change. We filmed it out in the desert in LA, and there were a lot of people there; we had background actors and huge cameras like movie cameras which was cool. It's just so unreal. I was very excited and happy and appreciative.

As an artist, how do you evaluate visual ideas for your music?

When I'm making a song, after I make the chorus, I start thinking about the music video and how I could turn it into a story. I feel like to make your songs not be the same you have to start making stories in your mind so it can be something different. If I was just talking about my life, it would be the same couple of heartbreak stories, so I like to think of a story beyond that. The music video and the story all come together when I make a song.

Can we expect more videos in the future, potentially for an upcoming album?

Most definitely! I'm about to release two music videos soon in the next month or two, and I'm gonna release a new album.

Besides this excellent single, what else should we be on the lookout for?

The album! Follow my Instagram @hilonnie to stay updated.

What's inspiring you right now outside of music?

I've been watching a bunch of movies and shows recently. “Don’t Worry Darling” was pretty good, I like thrillers, so I liked that movie a lot. I've been really wanting to get into acting, so hopefully soon I can be a part of that industry.

Any New Year's resolutions?

Just to not really care what anybody thinks or says and to spread love and positivity, move with love and happiness, and not really worry about the little things.

Who are your Ones To Watch?

d4vd is a new upcoming artist I love. He's just really talented. He's gonna be huge. I just added Devon Again to my playlist, she’s pretty sick.
