Lucky Daye Delivers an Irresistibly Modern Groove in  "Karma"

Lucky Daye's blend of R&B, hip-hop, and funk is sickeningly smooth. Emerging onto the scene in late 2018 with "Roll Some Mo," the New Orleans - raised artist has gone on to set himself apart from his peers with a swagger that is impossible to replicate. Following the release of his acclaimed debut EP, I, Lucky Daye returns with a single smothered in holy timeless funk.

In a similar vein to Childish Gambino's landmark funk revival album, Awaken, My Love!, Lucky Daye's latest single "Karma" channels the spirit of '70s era funk and groove to produce a track that is simultaneously steeped in nostalgia and presents a bold new sonic vision. Taking cues from not only funk but jazz and modern-day rap as well, "Karma" never feels like a mere imitation of another artist's or time period's style or flow. While the smooth-sailing backing beat could be taken straight from any great funk or soul album, the inclusion of Lucky Daye's layered melodic tone and a Migos-evoking "brrrrrr," places "Karma" firmly in a modern-day music vernacular.

Bridging the world of old heads, new kids looking for something outside the realm of the norm, and anyone with a working ear, Lucky Daye is shaping up to be one of the most promising R&B-fueled artists in the game. Currently kicking off the rollout of his sophomore EP, II, and with his highly-anticipated debut album, Painted, 2019 is shaping up to a breakout year for Lucky Daye. It certainly doesn't hurt he was handpicked by Ella Mai to head out alongside her on the upcoming spring run of 'The Debut Tour' either.
