Luvcat Reflects on her Debut LA Show & The Release of Fan Favorite “Lipstick” (Q+A)

U.K. breakthrough artist Luvcat has landed in the U.S., bringing her raw, romantic energy to her growing cult-fanbase. We caught her show at the iconic Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever, making sure to capture it in all her glory. The perfect venue to match her unique aesthetic and passionate performance, the crowd was hanging onto every word. The show coincides with the release of her new single, “Lipstick”, which fans have been pining over for months.

We caught up with the rising star before the show for a snapshot of how it felt gearing up for the first ever Luvcat show in Los Angeles.

OnesToWatch: This is your first show in LA, how are you feeling?

Luvcat: It’s my first time ever in Los Angeles. It all feels very surreal and magical. The venue looks so cool, I’m gonna walk round the cemetery and pay my respects to David Lynch.

Your new single “Lipstick” comes out the same night, how does it feel after performing it unreleased?

I can’t wait to finally release Lipstick, we’ve teased it for so long. The music video is the best thing we’ve made yet too.

Your on stage aesthetic is so curated, talk to us about what goes into creating your wardrobe and overall aesthetic.

It’s all pretty last minute and accidental most of the time. As long as I have red lips, fishnets, stilettos, pearls, big hair and a little dress I’m a happy cat.

Describe the experience of attending a Luvcat show in three words.

Love, sex & strangeness.

I read that your band is composed of your close friends, how do they support you on stage and off?

Yeah the band are my best friends in the world and it’s a privilege to be on this wild ride together. The lads protect me always and they are the most handsome, crazy, talented fuckers I know.

What’s been your favorite song to play live?

We usually finish the show with Dinner @ Brasserie Zédel and I love it because I take my heels off and pour wine all over myself.

Who’s your dream artist to tour with?

Nick Cave

A song you want to cover in the future?

Like A Bad Girl Should by The Cramps

You’re playing Glastonbury this summer, how are you feeling and what are some other dream festivals / venues you’d like to play?

Yeah, Glasto will feel like a fever dream I think. I’d love to play Lollapalooza!

Who are your OnesToWatch? Who are you listening to that we should be listening to?

I love Dora Jar. Her lyrics are brilliant and kooky, proper spellbinding stuff.
