Origami Angel Turn Water Into "Fruit Wine" On Grungy New Single | THE NOISE

Washington DC duo Origami Angel have had an incredible winning streak with the 2023 release of their mixtape The Brightest Days, and the year before that, they put out their sophomore album Gami Gang. Now, they make their big return with their latest single, "Fruit Wine." Produced by Will Yip, the duo of vocalist/guitarist Ryland Heagy and drummer Pat Doherty continue their madcap blend of varying styles, culminating in a massive anthem perfect for summer.

The new single sees the band channeling the grungy '90s revival vibes that Yip has so often excelled at. Leaning into their patented Gami Gang easy core-emo blend more than ever, the band maintains those catchy vocals while still finding room for gritty chugs. The lyrics find vocalist/guitarist Ryland Heagy comparing himself to Jesus in the humblest way possible when he belts, "As simple as it seems, it's still so hard for me to make it look easy… turning water into fruit wine."

Pat Doherty's impeccable drum work drives the track forward, bringing the perfect blend of power and detail fans foam at the mouth over. The band has never shied away from disclosing their love for French easycore band Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! That affinity is on full display in this track, which builds to a fist-balling breakdown at the last minute, narrated by Heagy's guttural screams.

After the single release, Origami Angel will begin their tour with Microwave, who released their fourth album, Let's Start Degeneracy. Support also includes Heart Attack Man and Carpool Tunnel, and the run ends in early June.
