OSTON's "WTF u want." Is a Glitch Pop Anthem For the Situationship Era

OSTON is a pop star on the rise, confirmed with the release of her first single of the year, the elaborate smash “WTF u want.” In this glitch pop banger, the singer-songwriter reflects on the hoops we jump through to be desirable and the aftermath of trying to change ourselves. On the track, OSTON calls it “the cacophonous beating heart of the ever-pleasant situationships that, though I couldn't see at it at the time, were always doomed from the very beginning."

As she communicates the chaos of past experiences through vivid lyricism and busy production, the lasting scars reveal themselves and add weight to her words. “WTF u want.” serves as the last stand-alone single off OSTON's upcoming EP Saint Rich, following the release of the TikTok adored “Burton St.” and 2023’s “Molly.” Each track title is intentionally stylized with a period at the end, unfolding the story OSTON is finally ready to tell in this upcoming project.

“WTF u want.” starts with a hyperpop-esque sound, immediately demanding attention as OSTON starts listing off toxic habits, rushing to finish each viscerally descriptive anecdote. The delivery paired with the deep synths mimics the rush of avoiding your problems, trying to outrun each decision before they catch up to you. The track then unexpectedly transitions into soft guitar strums, with OSTON’s softly vocoded vocals repeating the phrase, “I do whatever you want, whatever you want / Anything you want, you want,” emphasizing that these actions are meant to please someone else and not of her own volition.

This gentle break doesn’t last long when the track ramps up again, a punching distorted chorus as OSTON continues to recall details of past love affairs, when she changed herself to fit the mold of what people wanted or expected from her. The song is chaotic in every way, from the lyrics to the production to the tempo, mirroring the discombobulated feeling of chasing affection. It also highlights the confusion of dating, mixed signals, red flags that sometimes look green, and wanting love so desperately that you’re willing to ride the roller coaster that never actually ends in peace.

At its core, “WTF u want.” is a smash. One that demands a sing-a-long, to be blasted in the car, sang with your friend as she finally swears off that one guy, for moments that call for the type of liberation only found through good pop music. OSTON has a natural calling for expressing the hard moments through song, with this track joining a growing discography of healing hits. We can’t wait to hear the exploration of sound we’re surely in for with her upcoming EP, out later this year.
