Riovaz Lets Us Into His Inner World in Self-Titled Debut Album

Alt-indie prince Riovaz surprises fans with the release of his debut self-titled project, his industry introduction as an artist. One week out and it’s already accumulated over a million streams on Spotify, proving he’s the chosen voice of a withered yet hopeful generation.

An artist who moves pretty silently, we weren’t much let into the vast sonic world Riovaz was curating behind the scenes. The 11-track project is reckoning with his complex inner world, as he gives us permission to witness his unbecoming. His music has always done the best job of encapsulating the chaos of growing up, and Riovaz is no exception. From heartbreak to yearning, he tells true stories without straying from his signature upbeat indie rave.

“2004” is fast-paced and electrifying, similar to the infectious “brush it off !!!” Meanwhile, “m i wrong” and “in the end it’ll mean nothing” leave more room for Riovaz to bare all, as his devoted fanbase would only expect.

Reflecting on the project, Riovaz shares, “This album is the most important piece in my catalog to date. The process of making this album allowed me to explore new avenues musically and confront emotions I hadn’t been able to express before.”

With an album cover set in Riovaz’s bedroom in an alternate clay universe, it only solifidies the vulnerability of this self-titled work. Riovaz’s art is an extension of himself, serving as a medium for people to enter his inner world only to find it looks just like theirs.
