The next generation of Japanese girl groups has arrived with the fiery debut of SG5, short for Sailor Guardians 5. The group, consisting of Kaede, Sayaka, Rui, Ruri, and Miyuu, launched their global takeover this week, debuting their first single, "Firetruck." The single is an absolute banger that heralds the arrival of a fearless, futuristic-inspired sound, with an equally fiery music video showcasing the five members posing and dancing against a set of flashing lights, flames, and, yes, firetrucks too.

"Firetruck" is a vibrant and empowering pop song that ignites a spark within the listener with its dance-inducing blend of high-octane beats and synths. Talented Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer BloodPop [Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Madonna] and Hudson Mohawke [Drake, Pusha T] produced the high-energy track, creating a perfect blend of varied influences and an earworm we just can't quite shake. With a catchy beat and uplifting lyrics that encourage listers to embrace their power, "Firetruck" is a bold and lively introduction to SG5 and their mission to succeed internationally.

The music video, directed by Weston Allen, is to die for. In collaboration with Sailor Moon and the creator Naoko Takeuchi's blessing, fans can see elements of the iconic manga and anime, specifically the spin-off Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, sprinkled throughout. From the styling to the color coding to the dance formations to the ever-present planetary and lunar motifs, the music video is a joyride from start to finish.

The two years spent planning and creating are finally coming to fruition for the "intergalactic supergroup." Although Sailor Moon was a popular series from the '90s, in an interview with Rolling Stone, the girls shared that their sound will be anything but retro and that their upcoming album is expected to be a mix of futuristic pop and uptempo dance tracks.
