Sir Chloe's "Seventeen" Is a Caustic Alternative Explosion

Sir Chloe is back with a fiery new single, “Seventeen,” granting fans with one more anthem to learn before the band’s highly anticipated North American headline tour kicking off in March. The alternative band ended 2023 with the release of “Home Where,” continuing the momentum built from their debut album I Am The Dog released earlier last year. Now, “Seventeen” invites us further into the grunge-tinted world of Sir Chloe.

A haunting pair of picked guitar and chiming pianos open “Seventeen,” painting the the world with the seductive darkness we expect from Sir Chloe, luring listeners in from the first note. One instrument at a time, the arrangement builds, adding in a new layer of atmosphere each time the progression comes around. There’s an ode to Regina Spector in the way Sir Chloe fleshes out this slightly avant-garde, cinematic cycle of an intro. First, a piano octave outlines the guitar, then a synth begins to hum beneath the moving parts.

This intro weaves a fitting foundation for Sir Chloe’s sultry vocal tone, allowing ample room for listeners to feel the bite of her lyricism as she sings, “Reach in the socket and / Feel for the caustic / I’ll show you, you want to / You asked if I had a light.” The chorus explodes with gritty, '90s-adjacent bitterness, murmuring in the groan of a warbling bass. Drums are invited into the arrangement, too, adding the last touch of driving desperation that pushes the cyclical progression to its peak.

Grab tickets before they’re gone for Sir Chloe’s headline tour, with support by Daffo, starting on March 10 in Toronto.
