Stephen Dawes Fears He Might "Lose My Mind" in Latest Standout Single

Buzzing New York-based alt-pop singer-songwriter Stephen Dawes is ready for his big breakthrough with his latest release, "Lose My Mind." The short and sweet single paints a story of love and realizing a chance encounter could be the start of something deeper. At the same time, Dawes' vulnerable lyrics intertwine with his enchanting instrumentation, encouraging listeners to hold on to the special people in their life.

The single opens with the singer crooning, "On Halloween, we were sitting on the fire escape / Met you briefly the week before, and you still remembered my name." Listeners follow as he details the blossoming stages of new love and comes to realize the temporariness of life and that "Growing old is better next to" their loved one.

The momentum builds towards a manically catchy chorus, with Dawes declaring, "Cause without you, I think I'd lose my mind." Warm guitar riffs, steady bass, and clashing percussion blend into a comforting sound collage as Dawes shares how much he needs this person to be in his life. The track ends with one more emotive chorus, with all the instrumentation cutting out as the singer utters, "Would miss you all the time," alone before ending.

"Lose My Mind" is the first single of 2023 for the rising artist. Last year, Dawes was launched into the proverbial stratosphere after dropping a cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." The unique rendition is a slower, more stripped-down take on the iconic pop banger that showcases the full, heart-rending range of this breakout rising star.
