London born, the celebrated vibe & tempo architect Liv East has been melting our dance floor hearts since we caught one of her singles a few years back, and when we heard of her impending debut album, we were properly gassed up. When we found out the title, we were preemptively excited for what could be. Now that FUNKSOULSEX is out, we can celebrate it for its moody, back from the club scene generation, an almost perfect collection of songs for the past of the night where the energy is till there and the sun is dancing on the horizon (it also pairs perfectly with writing at that same time period if your spirit allows). We are suckers for Liv East and we slid into her DMs to get the latest on this drop, and her best date ever: 

1. Who is Liv East? How are you doing?  

Liv East is a creative scorpio soul from east london making music and making her dreams come true. I am very well! Feeling elated and lighter now my album is out in the world.

2. FUNKSOULSEX sounds fun, how do we get it? 

Thank you! It’s fun, funky, sensual, soulful. You can find it everywhere you normally find your music, and if you’d like to grab a limited edition lilac vinyl they’re available via my Bandcamp page or Spotify. 

3. What does FUNKSOULSEX sound like?  

I think whatever you think of when you see those words together as one - that’s what the sonic world is. It really does what it says on the tin - it’s rhythmic, funky, soulful, intimate, sensual, and deep.

4. Any collaborators to name? Who produced the album? 

The album was produced by two very talented humans - Jimmy Day and Joe Neman - who go by the duo AMi City. 

5. Describe the album as color / activity / place. 

The album is purple, watching a pinky purple sunset over a gorgeous beach until the moon appears. 

6. Besides this excellent album, what else should we be on the lookout for? 

I have some in stores coming up in London, Manchester and New York. Visiting New York for the first time this week and cannot contain my excitement. I’m also headlining the iconic Jazz Cafe in London on the 8th October with a full live band. 

7. Take us on a date: where do we go? What do we do? 

Ohhh ok. I take you to the slickest new listening bar in whichever city we find ourselves. We huddle away in the corner while my debut album plays, drinking spicy margaritas and talking about philosophy, astrology, and the meaning of life. 

8. What's inspiring you right now outside of music? 

Wanderlust and the thought of traveling to so many new places in the next year, hoping my music takes me to new corners of the world. 

9. Food group / activity best suited to enjoying your work? 

Anything with the right balance of indulgence and fulfillment that comes to mind…

10. Musically who is new but making all the right moves? Who are your current OnesToWatch? 

There are a few different artists inspiring me right now. Kelela and her phenomenal new album! An artist called Viuta who is kinda mysterious but dropping gems like his new single “Obsessive." A soulful songbird from the UK called Mariella and all her gorgeous songs. And in terms of OneToWatch, I’m going to nominate ME…enjoy the new album!
