We're Obsessed with Ella Boh's "DiE," Introducing Her New Era [Q&A]

Sometimes we're a little dead inside until we hear something that pops off in a way that gets the heart jolted out of its arrhythmia into celebratory life affirming action. On Ella Boh’s latest single, "DiE," a duet with the equally scary-talented Ellise, the producer-turned-singer that brings intense, emotionally charged lyrics about obsession, paired with the volatile energy of metal riffs to create a molten dark pop gem. Curious about life after death, what's cooking and more, we sent some letters Ella Boh's way to hear what's been keeping her busy:

OnesToWatch: Who is Ella Boh?

Ella Boh: Wellllll, I’m Ella Boh!! I’m a 24 year old, half Costa Rican/half French artist born & raised in Southern California. been making music forever and ever & I’ll never stop.

Are you alive? Should we be worried?

I think so? Sometimes I don’t know.

What is "DiE" all about?

“DiE” is a song about being soooo obsessed and in love with someone that you want to make them yours forever at any cost. It’s also the intro to a series I’ve been cooking up ;)

Secrets out – you have production chops, what's your favorite part of composing?

I’m just obsessed with taking the sounds in my head and making them real so other people can hear them too. My favorite part is the very beginning. Usually I’ll get super manic and inspired in the middle of the night and I’ll hear it all in my head. My second favorite part is having a final product that matches that vision.

Any collaborations or features? Who produced the single?

So far i’ve produced everything myself, I wanted to do that for the first era so it could feel the most “me”. For this next era, I brought in my close friend Stint & we’ve been making some pretty insane magic together that I am so antsy to get out into the world.. you’ll just have to stay tuned for that.

How does it feel to collaborate / duet? Is it natural for you?

Honestly, collaborating is probably the most natural for me. I started my career as a writer/producer for other artists, so at first it was a brain switch to be in the artist chair.

Besides this excellent single, what else should we be on the lookout for?

I'm obsessed with “DiE” and super excited for it to be introducing this new era of music I’ve got in my pocket. The best music I’ve ever made is coming sooner than you think :3

What's inspiring you right now outside of music?

The short answer is everything. My brain, my favorite movies, my favorite art, my life and everyone in it. There’s constantly something to pull from and the wheels are always turning because life is just inspiring always.

Best place to get the vibes back up for you?

Anywhere new, traveling or just being in new environments always gets my vibes back up when i’m down.

Musically who is new but making all the right moves? Who are your current OnesToWatch?

I’m probably the worst person to ask that question, I’m basically in a time capsule when it comes to new music. that being said, I absolutely love The Marias and Mareux.
