As Imugi 이무기, Auckland duo Carl Ruwhiu and Yery Cho navigate the slipstream between the listless ennui of late 90s downbeat and trip-hop, silicon smooth synth-pop, and the undeniable bounce of modern R&B.
Their aesthetics effortlessly complement the duo's considered thinking around music, culture, and identity in Aotearoa New Zealand. In 2017 Imugi independently released their debut EP Vacasian, locating them as part of a new generation of Auckland artists from immigrant communities. After the 2019's single release 'Be here soon', they caught the ear of Netherlands trio Kraak and Smaak with whom they collaborated on 'Sommeron'. 2020 has seen the release of several new singles, part of a soon to be announced sophomore EP.
