Ally Evenson Announces Sophomore Album, SPEED KILLS, With Single "Strawberry"

Acclaimed alternative-pop singer-songwriter Ally Evenson is slated for a breakthrough, unveiling her highly anticipated sophomore full-length album, SPEED KILLS. To celebrate the announcement, she has dropped a new single and music video titled “Strawberry," a heartwrenching effort filled with memories of love lost, nostalgia, and regretting the one who got away.

From the song’s start, her voice weaves in and out of thin air, alongside shuddering guitar chords, inviting listeners into a raw emotional space where Evenson's heartfelt lament, “I miss when you loved me," spirals into ether/ This rawness is especially gut-punching on the chorus as she tries to grasp onto the last vestiges of a fractured romance, reflecting through the pain, “Tell me I’m sweeter than candy, but I fucked it up and you let me.”

Speaking on the song’s inspiration, she shares, “I wrote ‘Strawberry’ about the first gay relationship I was ever in. I ruined it, and it was on me. I was very scared of being gay, and I let the relationship fall through my hands. ‘Strawberry’ captures the feeling perfectly.”

“This song is about the one who got away,” she adds. “To really drive that knife even further into the listener’s chest (it’s a secret knife because the sonic palette of the song is so joyful), the lyrics in the bridge reference Pitseleh by Elliott Smith.”

The accompanying music video explores the confusion and emotional hangover that weighs on her heart and mind. The visual opens on Evenson, with a bag over her head and a rope around her neck; she's placed in the foreground, strapped to a chair. While bound and blinded, a love triangle’s revolving door swings open and closed in the background.

The track will feature on Eveneon's upcoming album SPEED KILLS, out February 20, 2026. Across fourteen tracks, the singer-songwriter processes the aftershocks of a breakup, including the ensuing anxiety, profound sadness, newfound confidence, and ultimately, self-actualization. Co-produced with longtime collaborator and trusted musical confidant nydge, Evenson delivers elite pop songcraft, boundary-breaking production, and an unapologetic homage to 90s alternative form the soundtrack to this emotional rollercoaster. She sums it up best, “All of these songs are about me and my life. You’re getting who I am on SPEED KILLS. This is a study of myself.”
