Aquaman Playing Guitar? You Must Not Miss Muzza, The Rising Icon in Malaysia Rock and Roll Scene



If you don’t know who the opening act for Billie Eilish’s first concert in Kuala Lumpur is, you properly missed out a lot. After being deprived of music concerts for almost three years, international acts are once again bringing their tour to Asia, which also made Billie Eilish’s first live performance in Malaysia. Muzza, the young, talented, and charismatic singer-songwriter and guitarist, was one of the openers for the gig. Fans were intrigued by his performance in the blink of an eye, raving over it on social media.

 

The 31-year-old Muzza, whose real name is Muzaffar Shah Asrinan, has long and frizzy hair. While he has a such wild and free appearance, he is actually a father of two young daughters. His love for music comes from his family. His mother Norizan, Is the vocalist of the well-known 80’s Malaysian Band Heavy Machine. Because of his mom, he also got to know his biggest musical influence Lolen (aka Din), the former guitarist of Heavy Machine. At the age of 19, Muzza started performing in local pub circuit along with his father and Lolen. Muzza’s amazing talent in music and proficiency on the guitar become known by fans and make him one of the most important icons in Malaysia’s rock and roll scene. At the age of 23, Muzza released his first EP “Find My Way Back Home” which includes six self-composed songs in varied styles, from blues and slow rock to progress rock and jazz. He even played all the instruments including drums and keyboards in one of the tracks “The Pinks Have Flown”.

 

Besides his solo music project, he is also the lead guitarist of the band Muzza’s Mayhem. With his band, he won the champion in the national final of the Global Battle of the Bands, and represented Malaysia to compete in the World Finals in Oslo, Norway. The band also collaborate with legendary rock band Scorpions as the opening act for the Rockaway Festival.

 

During the pandemic, the opportunities for live performance have been greatly reduced. So Muzza turned to a different kind of audience, those in the other side of the of cyberspace. He started doing live stream on the internet, which amazingly increased his fanbase and he gained fans from all over the world! Fans are eagerly expecting Muzza to tour in different countries. After reading these all, I bet you already opened YouTube and was deeply enchanted by his live performance.
