Happydaze Shine On Addictive New Single "Piece Of Me" | THE NOISE

Scotland-based four-piece rock band, happydaze, are sharing their glistening new single, "Piece Of Me." The track embodies a relaxing melody with a rock punch to it. The track ascends gracefully, showcasing happydaze's ability to make stellar and addictive music.

"Piece Of Me" opens with a flurry of fuzzed guitar riffs, pop-infused drum machine patterns, and understated glitchy flourishes, setting the stage for lead singer Luke Bovill's grounded vocals to chime in and grab the listener's attention. Over catchy instrumentals, he croons, "I think I need some help/'Cause I don't feel myself/I'm thinking 'bout my health and/ All the woes it's given me." In the entrancing and mosh-worthy chorus, the band ups the ante with crushing percussion, high-octane guitar riffs, and thrumming bass lines as Bovill's vocals soar, especially on lines like, "You said that you've been thinking about leaving/ And I'm feeling pretty good about it."

"'Piece of Me'" was a demo from 2020, right at the start of lockdown," shared Bovill. "I wrote the first verse and chorus over Zoom with Pete with an acoustic guitar and a beat loop, then backed and forth the logic session with Sam from Neck Deep for a few weeks until it became one of our favorite songs. This song was intended to be on both of our last records, but we couldn't quite finish the production off the way we wanted it. We went back to Treehouse with Jim, and he stripped everything back and made the song what it is now. Some of my favorite lyrics and guitar parts are in this song, I'm so stoked to finally release it."

The accompanying music video is a simplistic yet gorgeous visual that complements the track's overall brisk aura with its sparse environment, juxtaposing expansive windows filled with the bold colors of fall leaves. Footage, one by one, introduces the band members jamming along to the song in an empty concrete warehouse. As the track ebbs and flows through dynamic crescendos and reflective lulls, clips of the band giving a vibrant performance intercut pensive b-roll, showcasing the band's infectious energy and natural chemistry.

"Piece Of Me" is the second following "Been and Gone" since the band's EP, Full Free Radical. They also recently wrapped up tour dates with The Xcerts and are set to play with Blood Command at Glasgow Garage on December 4, with more December dates to be announced.
