The Sky's the Limit in Arden Jones' "parachute"

There’s an indescribable feeling that comes with discovering a new artist you know you’ll listen to and love for years to come. Whether it’s the sound, lyrics, or overall vibe of the artist, sometimes it all just simply clicks. Last year, when I first heard Marin County native Arden Jones' "mr. sunshine," I was immediately entranced by the dichotomy of his fast-paced, electronic-infused sound with the emotionally vulnerable lyrics that painted a clear story of a lost 20-something fighting to figure out his own emotions. It was easy to fall deep into the upbeat, technicolor world of Jones, and my life has got even better with the release of his newest release "parachute." If you’re looking for a consistent, authentic, artist to follow, you’ve found yourself reading the right article.

Sonically, "parachute" is reminiscent of Jones’ past work while still finding the sonic space to add another layer of the 21-year-old artist’s imagination to his matter-of-fact storytelling. Shouting out frustrated lyrics over a stinging electric guitar and breakneck beat, Jones brings us into his complicated and distressing relationship with loneliness, dependency, and love. “I know I never say so / If you ever let go / Baby, I’d fall," he sings before breaking into a driving verse.

Even though he’s sharing deep and dark themes of being abandoned and not being in control, the song is a certifiable upbeat banger that you will want to blast in the car or add to your motivational morning playlist. There’s something moving about his raw honesty coupled with the refusal to let his emotional upheaval weigh him down.

“‘parachute’ is a song about someone who has your back at all times no matter what,” shares Jones. “It’s full throttle the whole time and is meant to be blasted with the volume high. Hope you love it as much as I do.
