Audrey Hobert Goes Out With “Wet Hair” to Announce Highly Anticipated Debut Album

One of the most exciting pop lyricists in the game is a quirky girl writing songs that memorialize life’s most awkward moments and she goes by the name of Audrey Hobert. The 26 year old rising star got her start in songwriting through the vessel of Gracie Abrams, her longtime friend and fellow confessional lyricist, and has now announced that her debut album Who’s The Clown? will be out on August 15th. Her third single to date, “Wet Hair," expands upon the Audrey Hobert universe and gives fans a taste of what to expect from her highly anticipated debut project.

To describe Audrey Hobert’s music as laced with personality would be the understatement of the century. Her music is her personality come to life, in a glorious expression of uniquely specific scenarios and brave admissions of overthinking. She delivers her lyrics like a seasoned comedian, with the addition of instantly addicting melodies and a natural knack for pop structure. “Wet Hair” is her latest showcase of these skills and exposes more of the inner workings of her unmatched mind.

Audrey’s storytelling brings an immediate visual to the listener’s head and feels like privately recounting an embarrassing situation to your closest friend. “Wet Hair” takes place in the moments before, during, and after a date, recalling all of the little moments that contribute to the uncomfortable nature of modern dating culture. Audrey sings about the things she does to make herself come off nonchalant, revealing how much effort goes into that more desirable perception. It’s instantly catchy, especially in the moments where she breaks the fourth wall singing directly, “Wanted it to be a whirlwind on purpose / Is that bad?” Although the lyrics are autobiographical and real, they’re also embellished the perfect amount to add drama and flair.

The world Audrey is building is one entirely her own, down to the visual rollout and a string of performance-art style shows where she passed out DIY CDs of unreleased music to everyone who walked through the door. Her debut album Who’s The Clown? is undoubtedly one of our most anticipated records of the year and we can’t wait to witness more from Audrey Hobert’s hilariously twisted and iconic mind.
