Augustine Takes Us on a Whirlwind of Emotion on "Prom"

In the most beautiful mess of emotion, Swedish DIY artist, Augustine, releases a bucket of passion into his first single of the year "Prom." The song carries all the worry and excitement of going through change, the melancholic feeling that comes with leaving things behind, and a sense of buzzing wonder at what lies ahead. Sticking with his dreamy David Bowie-esque production, Augustine continues to leave us in awe with his incredible writing and vocal ability. "Prom" may be one of his best releases yet.

It's the feeling of what may come tomorrow that may change your life forever. Augustine based this song off the feeling of going to prom. The impression that after prom, life seems to shift forever. The choices you make, the people you surround yourself with, it all inevitably changes after the life changing turning point of prom. Maybe you didn't attend prom, that's okay. It's the idea of that point in life, that very specific point in your last year of college prep or high school where it all begins to turn. Augustine explains the sensation of not necessarily knowing what may come tomorrow and why "Prom" is a collision of two worlds,

“Prom is really a mix of two worlds. When I started writing it in 2019 in LA I was inspired by the vibrant city, sunny weather and people around. I picked it up again during the pandemic in cold and dark Stockholm, and the feelings I was in at the time were so different and gave the song much more of a melancholic vibe. For me, Prom is a metaphor for the feelings before a big change, whether it's excitement or fear. Something that means that nothing will ever be the same as yesterday. It’s tricky that life just goes by and inevitably changes, because one part of me sometimes just wants to stop the time and stay in things as they are.”

Augustine has become an easy favorite to pick from the mix of music we curate. He has a distinct sound that from the moment you hear the first synth hit that first chord, you know you're in for a whirlwind of emotion. No matter what, his music moves you, physically and emotionally. His lyrics are relatable, his production is crisp, and vibes are flawless. He couldn't have begun 2021 off to a better start by debuting "Prom".
