Bb Trickz Shows Off Her Softer Side in “Sadtrickz”

As 2023 slowly comes to a close, few artists have me as excited for 2024 as Spain’s very own Bb Trickz. When we last saw the young artist, she was captivating our eyes and ears with tracks like "VIVA ESPAÑA" and "Charlie Brown" earlier this month. Not even a few weeks later, la más mala de España has returned with her newest project Sadtrickz, her first since Trickstar dropped last spring.

Unlike much of the music that preceded it, Sadtrickz is a rare glimpse of vulnerability from Bb Trickz as she trades braggadocious lines flexing her achievements for lines about romantic tension, loneliness, and lost love. On tracks like the EP opener “Paso”, Bb trickz romanticizes the past and reflects on a changed relationship, showing listeners a side of the rising star that is just as unexpected as it is relatable. As Bb Trickz’s emotional register broadens with the release of Sadtrickz, her stylistic range does too, with the EP sporting production from Cash Cobain, and samples from Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away and Lil Peep's iconic 2015 cut "The Way I See Things." With every new track, Bb trickz effortlessly bleeds versatility and creativity - making her one of, if not the most, exciting artists right now.

If nothing else, Sadtrickz once again proves the inevitability of Bb trickz. Whether languishing over love on a sad instrumental or triumphantly rapping over a Gangnam Style sample, Bb trickz shines with near-unparalleled charisma and talent at every turn. Though her artistic journey started long before the TikTok virality of “Bambi” (her genesis arguably being her work on Minimúsica: Els Aliments over a decade ago) it's only a matter of time until she becomes a household name.
