Benét Reclaims the Freedom of a Carefree Day in "No Alarm"


There’s nothing quite like the reclamation of freedom that comes with waking up at your own accord. No blaring alarm, no intrusion of tasks, just empty thoughts and dilly-dally. Benét’s latest offering “No Alarm” encapsulates that very feeling, perfectly packaged in an indie rock bow.

Raised in Virginia, based in Brooklyn, his charm is bred from the softness of his music, the familiarity found in how he embodies nuanced feeling. From the growing pains of self-actualization to the dizzying of fluctuating love, Benét has the songwriting ability to make even the sharpest bits feel cushioned.

“No Alarm” doesn’t require much of you to enjoy. It’s playful, a sonic ease, perfectly pairing with lyrics that spill all over. This single, released on the eve of his 24th birthday, sets up anticipation for his debut project Can I Go Again?, accompanied by two album release shows in Richmond and Brooklyn in late October. This is also the first project set to be released under Bayonet Records, a label that recognizes the magic in Benét’s allure and will help introduce his alternative sound to the eager masses.

As a black and trans artist, Benét defies many odds. Brewing a tasteful blend of indie-pop, rock, and soul, he doesn’t shy from the alternative or the grim. Instead, he finds the love seeded in the most bitter and rebirths anew. With millions of streams and a thirsty fan base already in tow, this is only the beginning of Benét’s indie takeover.
