Between You & Me Announce Release High-Octane "In The Middle" Alongside EP Announcement | THE NOISE

After closing 2023 with their long-awaited debut on triple j's Like A Version, Melbourne's Between You & Me continue their winning streak well into the new year by announcing their new EP SH!T YEAH, out April 5. To celebrate the announcement, the band released a brand new single titled "In The Middle" which is a classic pop-punk effort with earworm-y hooks that will get stuck in your head from the first listen.

The single is quintessential BYAM, with perfectly balanced instrumentation and vocals complimenting each other throughout. Crushing percussion patterns, thrumming bass lines, and sleek guitar riffs hook the listener in, with lead singer JT Wilson's rich vocals lamenting his past relationships. On the choruses, he belts, "Am I caught in the middle?/We had it all just to give it up," admitting that he feels his heartbreaking and not enough for his partner.

"'In The Middle' is about the realization that your relationship is over," reflects vocalist JT. "The strong joy and excitement you once brought to each other's lives had been replaced with fighting, bitterness, and a complete breakdown in communication. Even despite this, you both yearn for it to work out and dream of the better times. You break up, you get back together, and the cycle continues, despite both recognizing you had grown apart as people and the trust for each other was irreparable. The song encapsulates the slow breakdown of a relationship and the acceptance in moving on."

The accompanying music video, directed and edited by Max Pasalic, is a fun and vibrant visual that matches the song's upbeat nature. The five-piece gives an impassioned performance in a studio with colorful, highly stylized footage. It adds something special to the creation and makes anyone who watches wish they could join in on the fun.

The single and forthcoming EP saw the band team up again with Canadian producer Sam Guaiana, who previously worked with Guaiana on their acclaimed 2021 album Armageddon. The new single and EP announcement comes amid the band's debut headline UK tour, including multiple sold-out dates and low tickets across all remaining shows. Following this run of dates, Between You & Me will head to the USA for their first headline North American tour.
