BLACKSTARKIDS continue to roll out the bops with the release of their new single "CYBERKISS 2 U*," featuring award-winning Gen Z icon beabadoobee. The new single arrives as the latest taste from their upcoming project CYBERKISS*, set to release September 23. The single is a genre-bending earworm that captures the overwhelming spectacle and unrestrained joy of New York's downtown party scene.
The track opens with a sample of a voice asking, "What's your name?" while twinkling synths sparkle in the background. The band then describes how they're "in New York for the day" and can feel the sparks flying between them and someone they're into. The chorus sonically feels like an ode to young love and late summer nights in the big city with friends. "We were inspired by electronic and colorful music from our childhood like Daft Punk and Jamiroquai," shares BLACKSTARKIDS. "Also New York culture in general, the scene that kids have going on down there played a big role in how we wanted our music to sound."
Indie darling beabadobee seamlessly meshes into the technicolor world of BLACKSTARKIDS. Her sweet vocals shine in the chorus as she sings, "I just wanna send you a kiss," as sliding synths and entrancing beats weave in and out of the single. "Working with Beabadoobee and her producer Jacob Budgen was an amazing experience, because we were fans first then became friends while we toured together," says the trio. "Working together felt natural and was a super fun experience."
BLACKSTARKIDS' ability to blend garage rock with synth-punk and hip-hop is as seamless as it is infectious. By incorporating each member's wide-ranging influences into their blissful DIY sound, they successfully create music that's meant not just to be listened to but experienced. "CYBERKISS 2 U*" follows the recent release of lead single "SEX APPEAL," which pays homage to R&B and hip-hop royalty such as The Neptunes, Timbaland, and Missy Elliot and bounces with early 2000s magnetism.
