Chloe Star's EP Apt. 1101 Is A Battlecry of Alt-Pop Bravado

Apt. 1101 is an exciting release by Chloe Star, who first came to our radar following the unapologetic single, “Element,” back in 2023. Chloe, a groundbreaking artist is as commanding of our attention just like her tattoos, counting at over 101, and each a reflection of an upbringing centered around her indigenous and Persian heritage.

Apt. 1101 is a well-rounded sophomore EP, short and sweet – with enough range of what Star excels at, transcending genre norms by challenging what we expect a modern rocker to sound like and making it so much better.

“Bad Habit” is our opening track and is carried by an anthemic delivery of the track’s title, with the bravado of a battlecry. The headbanging collision of Star’s vocals, dizzying bassline and fierce drums strike the listener upon the first chords played. This contrasted by the flirty and seductive “Thigh Tattoo," which keeps the same high energy as its predecessor, and centered on a hookup gone right, the track is best summarized as an anthem for all romantics (chaotic or not).

And whereas an EP can skew a bit repetitive in sound, Star continues to keep us guessing in “Rockstar” with a delivery that is reminiscent of spoken poetry, is a great complement to the higher energy tracks sprinkled throughout the EP, with “Teddy Bear” being without question, a kaleidoscopic close to a project that is an exciting summary of what is to come for Star.

Closing out a stateside run later this summer, and with a recent performance at London Pride, Chloe Star continues to shine with each new release, with a sound that is truly her own (and worth listening to).
