Forward-thinking musical trio daysormay (a play on the French "désormais" meaning "from now on") is ready to unveil their sophomore album with the first taste, “SIMMER.” Consisting of lead vocalist Aidan Andrews and twin brothers Carson and Nolan Bassett, the group’s origin can be traced back to growing up together and starting their musical journey in middle school. After being discovered by label mate Tessa Violet back in 2018, who vouched for them to be signed, the group has released a slew of singles and their 2021 debut album, Just Existing. With the ushering in of a new era, daysormay is ready to re-introduce themselves in the most bold and honest way.

“SIMMER” is an anthem for feeding your impulses, and the complicated internal and external feelings that follow. In this single, daysormay are testing the waters of what happens when simple ownership goes further, embracing desire over rationality. On the inspiration behind the song, lead vocalist Aidan recalls, “I was really struggling... to moderate my consumption of everything, I was giving into any and every impulse that showed up, and I didn’t care. The song is speaking from that place, that state of mind of knowing you’re too far gone but not caring, and even leaning into it.”

Every aspect of “SIMMER,” from the production to vocals to tempo, echoes this notion and pushes the boundary further. The track begins with a cinematic intro where Aidan’s vocals run through a vocoder, mimicking the feeling of one's thoughts being suffocated. The sound then completely switches pace from an ominous instrumental to an explosion of the addictive hook, where this dark track shines as the hit that it is.

The lyrics are straightforward but smart, succinctly summing up the feeling of being comfortable in your own burnout. There’s a dynamic use of sound and genre, displayed in moments like the pre-chorus that plays with a pleasant R&B vibe. Each verse is delivered differently, creating an abundance of fractured thoughts that come together to paint a larger picture.

As the track closes with its intriguing instrumental, there’s no choice but to want more. Luckily for listeners, this is only the beginning of their story. The trio’s sophomore album MODERATION is slated for release this September. With “SIMMER” being the appetizer, fans are clearly in for a full-course meal of enthralling sonic storytelling and rivetingly vulnerable songwriting.
