ericdoa Is Living His Best Life on "sad4whattt"

Following the success of his collaborative 2021 EP with glaive, then i’ll be happy, hyperpop artist ericdoa returns with an epic new track and video for his single, “sad4whattt.” The song, which he announced would appear on Season 2, Episode 4 of the acclaimed HBO drama Euphoria, arrives alongside a stylish video featuring wild drag racing juxtaposed with cul-de-sacs and a run-in with the police.

“sad4whatt” may be short, but it oozes with massive, glitchy melodies that allow ericdoa the space to sing about trying to live his best life and continuing to grow even when the world feels heavy. Both exuberant and emotional, the singer sonically rides the temperamental instrumental with joy and ferocity in equal measure.

As the instrumental shudders and threatens to cave in around him, he offers an honest picture of his emotional state. “I’ll give you what you need,” he sings. “As long as you stay with me.” He pauses before finding confidence in his own strength, “Fuck that / I don’t got no time to get my love back / She gonna push me over the edge / But I’m a shove back.” It’s a raw and real depiction of young love’s fleeting yet honest emotions, which makes it all the more fitting for it to be included in the soundtrack for a show like Euphoria.

The video is equally ecstatic, starring ericdoa and his friends doing donuts in an abandoned parking lot. The shoot gets a little too real, as cops intervene on the group to inquire about what they’re doing drag racing in a neighborhood. It’s played for laughs in the clip, making sense since the song is about not letting the world keep you down.
