Fred Again.. Lets Loose in the Absolutlely Wild “Jungle,” Invites Rico Nasty For Remix

You would be hard-pressed to find a name in dance music with more excitement surrounding it than Fred Again.., and for good reason. It is a palpable fervor that has been bubbling since the viral success of his breakout hit “Marea (we’ve lost dancing)”—an ode to our lost dancefloors in the wake of the pandemic—and two lauded albums, Actual Life and Actual Life 2. Yet, the moment when the swelling hype seemed to crystallize into an impossible-to-ignore deluge was during Fred Again..’s Coachella set, which translated the UK artist and producer’s intoxicating fusion of manipulated spoken word, impeccable sampling, and house music into a celebration of life.

“Jungle,” written alongside Elley Duhé and Kieran Hebden (otherwise known as Four Tet), marks the first single since that turning point of a performance. Teasing the track throughout the last few weeks on social media and road-testing varying iterations of it in front of festival audiences, the electrifying collaborative work arrives as a living, breathing piece of music that pulls you into its insatiable thrall.

There is a magnetic push-and-pull to be found between Fred Again.. and Hebden as the initially restrained production gives Duhé the groundwork she needs to establish an emotional foothold. Yet, what’s most exciting is what to come. Building to a steady crawl, “Jungle” unfurls the blinding brush to unveil a club already in full swing, the walls dripping with sweat and bodies undulating until they become unmistakable from the next. In many ways, “Jungle” feels like Fred Again.. at his least uninhibited yet, chasing out a cathartic high that can only be found at the apex of a perfect drop where the crowd and DJ are in perfect sync.

For anyone who wasn’t lucky enough to catch Fred Again..’s standout performance at Coachella, he will thankfully be embarking on a US tour this fall, including sold-out dates at Los Angeles’ iconic Hollywood Forever Cemetery and New York’s Terminal 5.
