Games We Play Serenades Us All On "Girl Shaped Crater" | THE NOISE

Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and pop-punk provocateur Games We Play (a.k.a Emmyn Calleiro) returns triumphantly with his latest heartfelt single, "Girl Shaped Crater." The track is a breezy, acoustic guitar-led effort that glides through soft strings while his spacey croon hovers over melodic hooks.

Opening with a mellow blend of understated bass, pop-infused drum patterns, and catchy guitar riffs, Calleiro's warm, rich voice delivers thoughtful, heartwarming lyrics that explore the theme of an extraordinary person who doesn't see themselves as others do. He lulls over the instrumentation, "You've been dodging Heaven's calls since you went and you ran off/ To slum it here with me, I know I don't deserve it." As he continues to gush over his love, the track explodes with sweet sentiments, led by invigorating, lively production that supports the artist's soaring vocals. He belts to his lover, "There's a girl-shaped creator in the earth, that's never leaving no, right where you fell...So I cross my heart, baby, you're, you're my religion," letting anyone who'll listen that his partner is his "angel."

"It's about the most amazing person in the world who doesn't see herself as you do," explains Calleiro. "This girl is irreplaceable, and it's like she came from another planet. There's a hole in the earth, since she arrived so fast and crashed so hard."

The accompanying music video, directed by Jared Asher Harris, is an equally sweet, Romeo and Juliet-inspired visual with a classic singing-up-at-the-window-of-your-beloved scene featuring an all-female band of angels. As Callerio and company give a spirited performance of the track on his partner's front lawn, she peers from behind the curtains and looks at her reflection in a broken mirror. Eventually, the power of love wins out, and she musters the courage and confidence to go downstairs to join her serenader.

More broadly, the forthcoming LP vividly depicts the singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist's life over the past year, "encapsulating both his fulfilled aspirations and the formidable challenges he faced." Games We Play will play a few shows supporting Fall Out Boy and Jimmy Eat World in March. Later in the spring, he will be headlining the Life's Going Great Tour with support from House Parties and Zoe Ko.
