Alt-pop artist girli is celebrating her latest EP, why am i like this??, with the release of her new song "Inner Child." The mellow track sees the singer venting her frustrations over an emotionally draining partner without raising her voice, with a swaying chorus that has the potential to become an anthem for fans in a relatable situation.

"Inner Child" jumps right in, with girli's bold vocals hooking listeners into a sonic world of thrumming guitar riffs and mounting percussion and beats. She paints a picture of her current relationship, which feels increasingly one-sided as her hot and cold partner acts a fool. Emotions boil over in the seething chorus when she cuts into them with lines like, "Get your ego out my bed 'cause three's a crowd / I don't want nobody else, but you'rе bringing me down / Now I'm really getting tirеd of your inner child / 'Cause, man, he's really having a breakdown."

"This song is about someone's ego and immaturity getting in the way of you having something special," shares girli. "I wrote it about something I had with someone that could've been a relationship but didn't end up going past the casual stage because they needed to grow up, and I was already past that. Realizing that you're this person's therapist instead of their lover. The frustration and the sadness when the man turns out to be just a boy."

The new single is the final installment of the artist's new EP, why am i like this??, also out today. The four-track record is an explorative journey of self-discovery that sees girli deftly showcase why she can't be boxed in. The singer-songwriter had been questioning who she was and had put so much pressure on knowing the answer, but soon realized it's okay not to always know. To mark this epiphany, girli wrote the music she has always wanted to release, and the outcome is an accomplished, unapologetically pop-laden EP.
