Ivan Cornejo Delivers a Pain-Stricken Ballad in “Donde Estás”

Alt-musica Mexicana’s beloved Ivan Cornejo drops his latest single “Donde Estás,” a romantic yet pain-stricken ballad that only further proves he’s Latin music’s most promising up-and-comer.

Cumbia and regional Mexican music are currently having a powerful resurgence in the industry, and Cornejo is playing a crucial role in reintroducing it into the mainstream. One of the most streamed Latin artists in the US, he’s reached over 1.1 billion combined streams since his debut in 2021, and once you hear just a chord of his work, you’ll immediately understand why.

He’s able to concoct something incredibly dreary with his weighted voice, layering lifetimes into his lyrics, though he’s barely 19. Extracting inspiration from heartbreak and the loneliness of wandering through life open-hearted, his self-taught guitar meets the mood of his voice to birth incredibly soul-bearing music.

Lost in space, disconnected from the oxygen of his lover, “Donde Estás” is as haunting as its accompanied visual as Cornejo drifts away in longing. He’s an artist through and through, transferring the chill of his words into your body via hypnotic synth and goosebump-inducing harmonies.

Taking home the 'Regional Mexican Album of the Year' award for the second year in a row, Cornejo is only just getting started. As he continues on his North American 'Terapia Tour,' igniting festival stages and intimate venues alive, the multi-platinum singer-songwriter seems to be getting only more comfortable in the spotlight.
