boygenius may be on indefinite hiatus, but there’s no need to fret. A new supergroup for the girls has emerged and their debut collaboration has all the components of a breezy summer smash. Composed of multi-platinum singer, songwriters, and producers, Jeremy Zucker, Lauv, and Alexander23, the three indie-pop staples have joined forces for a new artist project. The three acts have been teasing their link-up on a secret Instagram account called @thegirlsthegirls52.

Their first single, “Cozy,” is a solid display of their individual talents complementing each other perfectly, and even comes with a fun music video that’s an ode to the classic 20008 buddy comedy, Step Brothers. The visuals are fitting for this nostalgic track, pulling from familiar soft rock influences but with all the elements of a modern-day hit. With its seamless production and cohesion, all three artists shine individually while simultaneously operating as one. It’s a match made in heaven, especially for the fanbases where there’s surely a great amount of crossover.

“Cozy” starts off subtly but really takes off in the second verse, adding in a driving beat that fills the rest of the track with energy. The boys sing about a new and exciting love while evoking a sense of familiarity indicative of a rare connection. Soft vocal echoes and adlibs that go back and forth with the instrumentation are only a few of the special details scattered throughout the track that make “Cozy” a successful soft pop smash.

On working with Lauv and Alexander 23, Zucker shares, “this collab has been a long time coming, and it was the most fun i’ve had in a while making music. knowing Ari and Alexander for so many years and having such similar fan bases made this rollout all the more exciting to us. we each had the ability to bring a bit of ourselves into this song and video and created something really special."

“When Jeremy, Alexander and I went into the studio to make a song, I knew we had to create something super fire," adds Lauv. "I’m so excited you guys can hear it now too. I feel like our fans have waited for us to collaborate for so long, and I truly just love these boys and think they’re so talented, so it’s an honor to make a song with them.”

Alexander 23 continues, “Making ‘Cozy’ with Jeremy and Ari was one of my favorite times in the studio. We’ve been talking about making music all together for years, and when it finally happened it was magical. We wrote it pretty fast, and then Ari took a nap while me and Jeremy recorded guitars (legendary).”
