Jordan Adetunji Returns With Explosive New Banger "KEHLANI"

While the list of artists vying for a spot on your summer rotation only seems to grow, few are as deserving as UK-born Jordan Adetunji. You may remember him from the glitchy jersey club euphoria of his 2023 bop “YOU & I,” but this summer the rising star returns to listeners reinvented with the refreshing and experimental banger “KEHLANI.” Blending NYC’s sexy drill stylistics with alternative UK R&B, “KEHLANI” is an anthem worthy of the Oakland singer’s namesake.

At only 24 years old, Adetunji has paved a way for himself in music that few of his peers could hope to emulate. Between earning millions of streams, endless praise from music publications, and a string of viral moments, the breakout star's ascendancy into music’s cultural canon wasn’t just predictable, it was inevitable. “KEHLANI” and its Ovie-directed visual are a testament to this, where over thundering bass signals and moody piano melodies Adetunji delivers a vocal performance whose dexterity is just as effortless as it is understated. In many ways “KEHLANI” is a perfect introduction to our hero, serving as a powerful synthesis of his influences while also pushing music forward in a way that only he could.

Like many of his songs that preceded it, “KEHLANI” is a song that is sure to convert even the most hard-headed skeptics into full-time Jordan Adetunji stans. Every release from the NY-via-UK artist feels like it was hand-crafted by a real student of culture, with each only making me that much more excited for the next.
