K/DA Make the Six-Year Wait Worth It With FIRESTARTER

Six years is a pretty long time to keep people waiting, but K/DA have never been a group interested in doing things halfway. With FIRESTARTER, the virtual pop supergroup makes its return with four tracks that hit like a jolt of electricity. Between the punchy production, addictive hooks, and larger-than-life attitude, the EP feels like a reminder of exactly why K/DA became such a phenomenon in the first place.
Since debuting with “POP/STARS” in 2018, K/DA has blurred the lines between gaming and pop music, turning League of Legends champions Ahri, Akali, Evelynn, and Kai’Sa into stars in their own right. The project has always understood the appeal of a larger-than-life pop persona, pairing the fantasy of its virtual members with the real voices and personalities of the artists behind them. But FIRESTARTER isn’t simply a trip down memory lane. With returning vocalists MIYEON and SOYEON of i-dle joined by Sophie Powers and Mimi Webb, who are taking the torch from pop darlings Madison Beer and Jaira Burns, the four-track release brings fresh voices into the mix while keeping the bigger-than-life sound that made K/DA stand out.
The title track wastes little time getting things moving. Built around heavy bass, sleek electronic production, and punchy rap sections, “FIRESTARTER” has the kind of momentum that makes you want to turn the volume up before the first chorus even hits. It’s bold, polished, and unapologetically dramatic, which is exactly what a K/DA comeback should be. There’s no tentative testing of the waters here. The group arrives ready to reclaim its place in virtual pop, and the track makes a convincing case for why that place is still worth fighting for.
The accompanying video, created by Fortiche Production, only adds to the spectacle. Known for its work on Arcane and K/DA’s original “POP/STARS” video, the animation studio gives the comeback a striking visual identity, pairing the group’s signature style with a more mature, fashion-forward edge. The music and visuals work together to make this return feel like an event rather than a simple new release. If you’re going to disappear for six years, you might as well make an entrance.
“WATCH ME” keeps that confidence rolling, with Sophie Powers and Mimi Webb trading vocals over a driving electronic beat. The track brings a different flavor to K/DA’s glossy pop world, giving the new additions room to show off their personalities while maintaining the EP’s sense of forward motion. “NEVER GOING BACK,” meanwhile, reunites MIYEON and SOYEON for a track that leans into the melodic hooks and self-assured delivery that fans have come to expect from the duo. Both tracks reinforce the appeal of K/DA’s formula, balancing familiar pop instincts with the excitement of a new era.
But it’s the closing track “GIRLS” that gives FIRESTARTER its most exhilarating moment. Featuring DJ Sona alongside Sophie Powers, Sorana, and Royal & the Serpent, the criminally short, yet impactful track throws open the doors and invites everyone onto the dance floor. Its lively, high-energy production makes for a finale that feels less like a goodbye and more like a celebration. Rather than winding down after the title track’s big entrance, K/DA saves a different kind of rush for last, one that leaves you wanting to dance, sing along, and immediately run the whole EP back.
Sorana’s comments about the track’s innate joy make it even more meaningful. Describing her experience working with Powers and Royal & the Serpent, she spoke about the pleasure of sharing the moment with artists she already loves and supports. “There’s something special about celebrating a moment like this with people you already love and root for,” she said. That sentiment fits “GIRLS” perfectly. Beneath the glossy production and dance-floor-ready energy is a song that feels like an invitation to celebrate together, making it a fitting final statement for an EP built around K/DA’s return.
For Powers, joining K/DA is a full-circle moment. The singer revealed that she has had K/DA’s “Villain” on her playlist since high school, making her turn as Evelynn feel a little surreal. “It really does feel like a dream come true,” she shared before adding, “It’s time to serve.” There’s something genuinely fun about a longtime fan getting to become part of the world that inspired her. Webb also called the opportunity to join K/DA a “dream come true,” expressing gratitude for the passionate League of Legends community that has welcomed her.
Across four tracks, FIRESTARTER delivers a pretty compelling argument for patience. The EP doesn’t need to reinvent the formula to remind us why it works. Instead, it builds on what made K/DA exciting in the first place, giving longtime fans something familiar to latch onto while making this next chapter feel fresh.
