With new EP THREAD 27, Lucy Park brings new production styles to familiar problems, making heartbreak and romance sound completely new. 

The UK-based artist’s tracks have a futuristic feel, with driving drumbeats, funky grooves, and distorted guitar lines that sound like nothing you’ve ever heard before. Tracks like “TOUCH CONTROL” and “OUTLINE” make you want to move, while “PAINT ME A DREAM” and “BLUE SHASHIKO” are more delicate and dreamy. 

Park’s lyrics are specific in their introspection, but still accessible. On the swinging “OUTLINE,” the artist is “trying to set my mood aside” in order to “let this feeling go,” creating the perfect soundtrack for anyone who’s struggling with their own hard-to-let-go-of issues. 

On the sonically- fluid “DIZZY,” Park studies a relationship gone sour, admitting, “It takes two to walk these lines,” while “MOSAIC” sees her ask her partner, “How do we fix it all?”

The EP’s standout track, “BLUE SHASHIKO,” is a Billie Eilish-esque ode to the ambivalence of ending a relationship that was already long over. “Tell me it’s time that we go,” she asks her lover, adding ruefully, “We did our best.” 

Park finishes the song by questioning, “Am I ever gonna work it out?” — something anyone who’s ended their fair share of relationships has asked themselves at one point or another. It’s a moment of vulnerability made all the more emotional due to the layered production that turns an oft-asked question into something that feels wholly new. 

THREAD 27 is a major step for Park, marking her as an artist with a relatable point of view, and a unique production style that elevates her music beyond what you might expect.
