UK rising star Maisie Peters gets real about heartbreak and societal expectations in her latest single, "Body Better." The single overflows with honesty and vulnerability, highlighting the evolution of Peters' acclaimed diary-style songwriting and tackles the pressure of living up to society's idea of beauty.
"Body Better" is a bold pop song that deals with a breakup, insecurities, and how the world picks women's bodies apart. The emotional track opens with a collection of wailing instrumentation and poppy vocalizations before introducing us to Peters' thoughts and memories of her failed relationship. While catchy, upbeat sonics provide a solid foundation for the track, they juxtapose Peters' powerful lyricism, where she wonders whether or not she can compete with an ex-partner's ideals and societal beauty standards. "Were you sorry like you weren't at the time?," Peters questions before delving deeper into the heart of the matter, "Loving you was easy / That's why it hurts now / The worst way to love somebody is to watch them love somebody else."
"I wrote it after a breakup, and it deals with the ugly things you think to yourself in the aftermath, when you're painstakingly going through everything small thing you did and were and wondering what you could have changed," shares Peters. "It's a song about insecurity and vulnerability, about giving a lot of yourself away to someone who decides they don't want it anymore and knowing where to go from there."
Following the electric release of her debut album, You Signed Up For This, "Body Better" ushers in a new era for the rising artist. The track is set to be featured on Peters' highly anticipated, soon-to-be-announced sophomore album. Starting in February, Peters will hit the road supporting Ed Sheeran's 'Mathematics' stadium tour in New Zealand and Australia before playing her first-ever headline shows in Japan and Singapore. In addition, later this year, Peters will embark on a run of headline shows across the UK and Europe before joining select dates of Ed Sheeran's 'Mathematics' summer tour of North America.
