Meet Blue, the Singer-Songwriter Behind TikTok-Teased Debut “oh, lover”

You might have already heard “oh, lover,” in snippets on TikTok, as Blue has been teasing the catchy chorus since April. For the months since then, the comments have been consistently filled with users begging for more, and lucky for us, it’s finally time!

But the question many of us have is, who is Blue? Turns out, the singer-songwriter isn’t new to music. Previously, Blue has released several singles since 2020 under the name Leyla Blue. Starting in January, Blue started a cryptic "finsta" account and has gained over 18k followers and 5k pre-saves from sharing snippets of her album. This online presence has translated into a real fandom; last week, she played two back-to-back shows with a 13-piece band in Los Angeles that sold out within minutes, all before a single official release. She even has the stamp of approval from other artists like Laufey and Ashe, indicative of an “artist’s favorite artist” dynamic.

“oh, lover” perfectly fits into the beloved category of “happy-sounding sad-songs.” Sounding like a collaboration between Olivia Dean and Dijon, it’s undeniably a jam, but it’s ultimately grappling with the feeling of falling fast and hard while not being reciprocated. As the chorus sings, “Oh, lover, you don't gotta tell me, baby, I already know that I took it too deep. Oh, lover, how could it have meant so little to you and oh, so much to me?” The release is already racking up streams and has been featured on several Spotify playlists, including New Music Friday.

After some stalking of Blue’s TikTok and Instagram accounts, @tookittoodeep, a lyrical reference to “oh, lover,” it seems the track is the first single on a potential album. In addition to teasing “oh, lover,” Blue has also uploaded other song snippets on TikTok, which we can assume are tracks that will be featured on the unannounced project.
