BOY SODA is Telling Us To Take a Big Sip of What’s To Come
“It’s just always been a part of my body to be honest.”
BOY SODA – aka Brae, is appealing to all listeners with his ability to diversify his sound through intoxicating innovation. With nods from the likes of Dominic Fike, Tyler the Creator and Converse Australia he’s one to keep tabs on in this space.
Refreshing, ambitious and armed with fiery style and finesse, BOY SODA is making it known that it’s ‘SODA SZN’ every day of the year. Charmed by the way music set his soul on fire, this multi-talented 24-year-old (soon to be 25) singer, songwriter and producer from New South Wales is unstoppable. “I would always love the way singing would feel, like on a physical level. I remember being a kid and when I got the right note would get this little fuzz. That sensation was enough for me.”
Swayed by the lush sounds of R&B trendsetters, Usher, IDK, Frank Ocean and SZA, he streamlined to make his music just as entertaining and captivating as those prominent in his high school day. With that goal in mind, set BOY SODA to flawlessly deliver performances as a vocalist and as an entertainer– usually characteristics both hard to be good at as a musician.
With his devotion to refine his craft, BOY SODA is creating sounds that is fluid across all genres like funk, hip-hop and more. A chameleon able to blend genres and create immersive melodies to propel him into the local and international stages, BOY SODA is continuously inventing work confidently knowing that they are 10 out of 10. A definite competitor in the contemporary R&B scene, his authenticity and self-assuredness are what spotlights him.
“I think I’ve just taken little bits from different people in very specific ways. Frank Ocean’s writing is very personal and conversational, so I take a lot of that. Specifically, his tone of voice and his mid-range where he has that really nice texture. I’m like – I want that! When I listen to Miguel, he has this very rock grungy thing that happens when he pushes. SZA, when she rights melodies is so up and down, jumpy, smooth, and conversational at the same time, so I take a lot of my melody game from her a lot. I don’t know it’s just a little mosaic. I feel like a mosaic is my artist project and I’m taking the things I like.”
For BOY SODA, holding his music with high regard and protection is what matters most, allowing listeners to receive it how they want. With thoughtful intention in mind, this artist is doing what he loves and urges those in the game to follow suit. Trust, resilience and fun – all things to remind those to take the leap and achieve greater.
“I don’t want the external validation to play with me in that way. I’m just being patient and I know that people will know what I’m saying and what the essence of me as an artist is. Art is subjective – they can take whatever they want from it… You have those moments of ups and downs as an artist depending and get caught up on the stream or likes, but it’s just nice to exist in the sphere where you do it because you love it. I think good opportunities just naturally become by-products of you pursuing that.”
Wielding charisma and even better vocals, BOY SODA is set in stone for world exposure, and we can only expect him to keep his playfulness and confidence at 100%. Weaving through the endless opportunities to make something different, his upcoming music is sure to be another hit from the fresh-voiced musician.
