Meet goodboy noah, an Emerging R&B Sensation

After popping up on my TikTok FYP, I had to hear more from goodboy noah and was excited to learn that he was getting ready to drop a new single. Fast forward to today, "Tie Down" by goodboy noah is finally out and it's the refreshing yet classic R&B track we didn't know we were missing til now. The vibey melodies mixed with the soothing sound of his voice make you want to sit back and take it all in. While his lyrics are very tongue-in-cheek, you can't help but feel good while listening.
"Hold up, I think we bout to pour up
Our stocks about to blow up
I'm wolfing like I'm Wall Street Leo
Say now, them windows on Rodeo
Ain't just another mirror
Let's go in like we own that bitch now"
We had the chance to *virtually* sit down with goodboy noah and learn more about the inspiration behind his music. With "tie down" being the jam that it is, we will be patiently awaiting the release of his first EP.
Ones to Watch: For those who may not know, who is goodboy noah?
goodboy noah: I'm just your run of the mill, average, Jewish R&B singer with a heart of gold. I love dairy even though dairy doesn't love me. I literally have no other discernible skills other than music so it's either this or work at a cheese factory. Mmmm cheese.
When did you first discover your passion for creating music?
In middle school, my friends and I would have sleepovers and just make stuff. We’d make silly songs in Garageband like “Bitch, I know Karate” and “Fuck Yoga.” I’d always end up singing the chorus and my friends would rap the verses. And even though I don’t know karate and I enjoy yoga, that’s when I realized I loved making songs.
Are there any artists that inspire your sound?
Holy crap, there are so many. Most are from my childhood when I was constantly listening to R&B. I’d say the biggest [inspirations] are Lauryn Hill, Usher, Boyz II Men, and NE-YO. And then more recently, my favorites have been Kehlani, Anderson .Paak, and H.E.R.
What artist would you want to collaborate with?
The first artists that come to mind are Kehlani, Snoh Aalegra, Kaytranada, and Ravyn Lenae. I think those would end up being pretty cool songs.
What message do you want your listeners to take away from this single or from your music in general?
A lot of my songs are about love, but in a sort of cheeky way, that doesn’t take itself too seriously. I’m not sure what listeners will take away from them, and I don’t know if I’m thinking about that as I’m writing/making the songs. It’s more like “Would I listen to this song if it wasn’t me?” but also, “do the music and lyrics feel like me?" I think people can take away whatever they want from the songs. Once it’s out there, it’s not up to me no more.
When you're not making music, what are you doing?
I’m usually acting like an idiot with my cousin/roommate Benny Mayne. Before the pandemic, I would play a lot of basketball, but now I’ve started to pick up Tennis. I’m pretty just ok at it. I’ll also watch TV or look at my phone for too long and then my eyes start to hurt, but I ignore it and keep looking.
What is your writing process like?
It definitely varies. For "tie down,” I made a quick scratch beat in Logic and wrote to that. Then I gave the vocals to my producer Micah Gordon, and he made it infinitely better. I’ve done it like that for a handful of songs. The other times, I’ll just write something from scratch with Micah and my friend Dan.
Can we expect another single soon?
Sheeiittt you can expect many more. I’ll be dropping 2 more singles after “tie down” and then my first EP ever. And I have so much more music in the vault that I can’t wait to share right after.
Who are your Ones to Watch?
My favorite up and coming artists at the moment are probably benny mayne, remi wolf, Alex Isley & Jack Dine, and Ravyn Lenae. They're all insanely talented, and I'm patiently waiting for more music from them.
