Nine-Piece Collective seeyousoon Makes Their "Steamy" Debut

In the last few years, there has been an undeniable rise in the popularity of musical collectives. From groundbreaking groups like Odd Future and BROCKHAMPTON to enviable upstarts LAUNDRY DAY  and MICHELLE, music collectives have continually captured our fascination with an entity’s ability to create an immensely dynamic sound greater than the sound of their individual parts.

Ignacio, Kenny, Denny, Maddie, Josh, Dre, Drex, Luke, and Mitch are the nine artists comprising the brand new Florida-based collective, seeyousoon, dropping their debut single "Steamy" today.

seeyousoon  offers a sound that is anything but straightforward. Their music bends genre to its limits, drawing on old school hip-hop, R&B, and the nebulous freedom of indie for inspiration, with noted influence from Mos Def to Amy Winehouse. Producer Ignacio is proud of how hard their style is to pin down, affirming, "We're always trying to go left. The modern rap landscape draws us together, but we keep it fresh. This is a celebration of the things that make us different."

In "Steamy," we get a taste of seeyousoon's innate ability to combine aspects of different genres into something that's not only thoroughly cohesive but really just gets you grooving. Ignacio shared that their intent was to touch on all three key themes of songwriting in a single track, sharing,

"It's like we're painting a picture. In color theory, there are three primary colors. In songwriting, it's similar, because you have happiness, sadness, and anger. Those colors are very easy to paint with. However, we're trying to paint with as many different colors as possible to tap into more nuanced feelings, which are harder to describe with words. It's interpretive  and meant to transport you somewhere else."

This is an undeniably bold concept, but it has obviously paid off in the diverse, positively provocative "Steamy." When you give the track a listen, the beat is immediately reminiscent of Snoop Dogg's iconic "Drop It Like It's Hot." Within the first ten seconds, we're dropped headfirst into an impressively complicated verse by... well, we haven't really figured that out yet, but there's little doubt seeyousoon will soon find themselves with die-hard fans who are more than keen to distinguish who lays down every spitfire verse.
