9 Questions With Girlfriend, Wife [Q&A]

Some things just make sense. A super-duo born from the brilliant brains of longtime friends Kacy Hill and Tessa DeNicola is one of them. Today, Girlfriend, Wife releases their first EP God Made Me A Star. The project spans 7 tracks that are diverse in sound, but completely honed in on a united vision. Through an ethereal lens, the pair turn the dull into something divine and thrive as a unit destined to shine. Drawing influence from Madonna to shoegaze, it's a melting of the minds that is sure to soundtrack the lives of those lucky enough to find it. Although the answers already lie within the detailed dreamscape the girls have built, we couldn’t help but ask for more:

1. Why is now the right time for girlfriend, wife?

It is a lifestyle that we embody to the fullest. We live together in the girlfriend, wife palace and indulge in our delusions of extreme success. We believe in it.

2. What does the tracklisting order of this project represent to you?

It sounded best in this order.

3. Give us something that was on the girlfriend, wife moodboard that might surprise listeners.

It’s so unbelievably dialed, no surprises are allowed on the moodboard.

4. If girlfriend, wife were to score a film, which director would you choose?

Probably us. Or Lena Dunham.

5. What was the writing process for "Kinda Mean"? Especially the talking portion.

We went into the studio with Cam, who produced the track. At this point, we weren’t actually taking the project seriously, it was more of a never-ending bit that dragged on, but the music came so naturally. It was all fun and we weren’t overthinking anything - a lot of sonic and lyrical elements that we’re able to get away with for girlfriend, wife would feel out of place in either of our solo works.

6. What came first, "God Made Me A Star" as a song title or an EP title?

“God Made Me A Star” first came as the song title. We kept accidentally writing songs that, in their earliest demo stages before lyrics, sounded like Christian rock anthems. We kept the scratch lyrics “god made me a star” because they felt kind of ironic as we were writing songs in our mold-laden house.

7. The layers in these songs are endless. What instrument/sound used throughout the project is your favorite?

Our beautiful brains ♡

8. You recently opened for Fcukers, which was your live debut. Tell us another artist you would love to support or perform alongside.

Definitely Lou Reed!

9. Who are your OnesToWatch?

Sex week and Snuggle.
