Pale Waves Capture the Bittersweet Release of Heartbreak in "Glasgow"

Critically acclaimed UK indie pop outfit Pale Waves leave it all in the rearview on their latest track, "Glasgow." The song is a poignant breakup anthem, focusing on lead singer Heather Baron-Gracie as she laments about fleeing Glasgow after being abandoned at the altar.

The track opens with bittersweet, '80s-reminiscent sonics as Baron-Gracie reflects on a relationship that began at "the start of the summer." Despite her better judgment and friends' warnings, she fell deep into the whirlwind romance that soon turned sour and cold. In the soaring chorus, she sings: "When I left you in Glasgow/ I remember crying on the way home/ Yeah, I had to go and get myself out of there/ Oh, 'cause there was nothing left/ Nothing left for us to repair." Her emotional journey is palpable as she questions whether her decision to "run away" was a "mistake."

"'Glasgow' is my favorite from Smitten," shares Baron-Gracie of the new track. "It's about leaving someone because you know it's no good for either of you anymore. It somehow breaks my heart but also makes me feel so euphoric at the same time."

The accompanying self-directed music video is a stunning visual that plays off its theme. It depicts Baron-Gracie dressed as a bride, still on her wedding day best, packing up a car and hitting the road. The juxtaposition of close-ups and panoramic shots captures the contemplative nature of the open road ahead after a relationship's end.

The new track follows the success of their lead single, "Perfume," both of which will feature on their forthcoming fourth album, Smitten, out September 20. The band has also announced their UK headline tour, which will make stops in major cities across the country, including a hometown performance at Neighbourhood Festival and a stop at London's Outernet.
