Are you always looking for new soft, ethereal pop to fill your ears? If so, this New Jersey-based nurse by day and singer-songwriter by night will be your new obsession. After being featured on George Clanton and TV Girls’ recent album Fauxllennium, PYNKIE has released her new EP “Big Feeling” just in time to soundtrack your summer. The 5 track project lives up to its name, exploring the intricacies of life in more than just its lyrics. PYNKIE’s sonic world is both rich and muted, toeing the line between consciousness and realism flawlessly.

Inspired by PYNKIE’s long walks along the Hudson River, the prolific artist felt moved by the details of the world unfolding around her. “I started noticing how much I have to be grateful for and became truly able to enjoy life’s simple pleasures in a deep new way” she shares, “The feeling was so big, I had to write songs about it.”

The EP starts with the gorgeous “Sign," a track that delivers PYNKIE’s signature vocal delivery that seamlessly blends with the soft, detailed instrumentation. Introducing the main theme of the project, “Sign” is about noticing meaning in the simple moments of life. The ending sounds like a spell, chaotic yet simple with distant vocalizations that sound like they’re begging to burst through. Next up is “Big Feeling”, the shoe-gazy title track in which PYNKIE declares, “All I wanna do now is feel this big feeling.” Its beat evokes a melancholy familiarity and as the production swells, an intense guitar line adds texture and chaos.

PYNKIE’s perspective possesses an overcompensating dreamlike state, and the second half of the Big Feeling EP dives deeper into it. On “Februarylove," PYNKIE’s vocal performance shines in an abstract, open-ended dreamscape of sounds. The following track, “Flyyying” is stripped back and concise with visceral storytelling and made even more special by PYNKIE’s intimate vocal performance. The final track, “Down” mimics its title in descending instrumentation. It’s the perfect way to close this collection of sounds, in a hazy, ambient trance with vague lyricism that allows the listener’s mind to explore.

Big Feeling is perfect for listeners who use music as an escape into a dreamlike, contemplative state. PYNKIE’s mastered the art of feeling and makes the glimmers of life feel grand through her distinctive style and atmospheric artistry.
