If you’re anything like London-based artist Ray Laurél, you might find yourself listening to music and daydreaming of quintessential summer romance—sunsets, beautiful beaches, and even your perfect partner. "Coconut Perfume," the newest single from Laurél’s upcoming debut EP, completely captures these sweet feelings through slow, alternative drum beats and aching lyrics that echo artists like Steve Lacy and Mac DeMarco; however, Laurél drives a unique sound through creative, funky production and honest, vivid lyricism. With groovy bass lines, simple production, and impressive and emotional vocals from Laurél, you won’t want to miss this laid-back summertime slow jam. 

Honestly, "Coconut Perfume" will make you wish you were in the middle of your own textbook summer fling. Speaking about the new track, Laurél says, “I romanticize my life on a daily basis, it’s fun but pretty tiring haha, with this song I’m simply romanticizing a ‘perfect date.’ drinking wine listening to Stevie Wonder under the sun, surrounded by nature. I remember having a  crush on this girl who always wore coconut perfume in back high school, it just reminds me of summer.”

The soft verses fall into a funky, manipulated chorus where Laurél sings, “'Cause I'm, I'm in love with the thought of you / Don't know where you are, but I hope you're here soon / Baby, your arrival is overdue, I need ya / 'Cause I'm, I'm in love with the thought of you / Don't know who you are, but I bet you're pretty cute / With your dirty blonde hair, and your coconut perfume,” painting a picture of young, innocent love scored by alternative, contemporary, and immediately catchy instrumentation. Seriously, get ready to be taken back to a time in your life that reminds you of young, budding love. 

Once you get a chance to listen to "Coconut Perfume," you’re going to want to hear more and more from Ray Laurél. Luckily, the rising singer-songwriter is gearing up for the release of his debut EP release, MANIC PIXIE DREAM BOY, dropping everywhere July 15.
