Rozwell Masterfully Blends New Age Tech With Modern Hip Hop in "Close"
In 2019, it is hard to be what would once be considered a renaissance man. A man who is a master in all fields, from physics to literature, a renaissance man can quite literally do it all. Upcoming artist, Rozwell, may be the closest representative we currently have. As a graphic designer, creative director, multi-media artist, songwriter, and singer, Rozwell seems to be doing just about everything you can without imploding.
He recently released an EP titled, Zeus I.S V.1, which showcases his ability to blend futurewave sounds with modern trends. His fascination with the blend of technology and sound truly shines through and throughout. Today, following the success of this release, Rozwell comes forward with the bouncy and joyous track, "Close."
"Close" showcases all of the things that make Rozwell a unique artist in a space of his own. Beginning with the production, the track makes use of both vintage and future sounds. There are a few synths that could be found on '80s hits, as well as various clinks and beeps that may be the closest one will ever come to knowing what a time machine may or may not sound like. All of this combined creates a lovely experience. The drums on the track are subtle and follow the normal trap patterns we see in modern trends. With soft high hats setting the pace, the whole track comes together nicely.
On top of the production, Rozwell is able to deliver a strong vocal performance as he melodically raps about reaching for his dreams. What may initially be taken for a song about a love interest is actually a take on continuing to pursue what one wants so terribly. In this light, the notion of being so close to a goal echoes throughout the track - literally, with pitched and reverb drowned vocals the song repeats, "Close to me, close to me," reinforcing the track's central message.
As the track comes to a close, all of its elements come together to create a fast-paced and dancey feel. Ultimately, the track ties together with a faint voice saying, "Rozwell wake up." This perfectly ties it all together and gives off the element of the track being some sort of fever dream, where the '80s synths and future pop have all come together for a fun-filled dance track.
